The #50 Chenowth, driven by Luke Erceg with navigator Vicky Katsikidis had an impressive debut in 2009 with 2 top ten finishes in its first two AORC races, and a second outright at the October Baroota Enduro in SA. After the race the car was stripped, the steering setup was redesigned and a sway bar (thanks to Racer Imports) was added to help increase the mid corner speed. Along with these changes, the boys at Mac’s Automotive Repairs in Adelaide went to work on increasing the power figures of the 6lt Chevy engine. “The engine is much more responsive and the torque down low is a huge improvement on last year. That change, along with the new steering and sway bar has completely transformed the car. At a recent test day at Sedan, we made a few suspension adjustments and the car ran faultlessly for 200km. We are very confident of continuing our good results from last year and hopefully driving our way into the top ten at Hyden” Luke said. Check out Luke's test day at youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AeXG0fuSv0AThe Chenowth isn’t the only item that had some work done to it over the off season. Luke has been working feverishly in the gym to try and get himself fitter and stronger to be able to drive the car harder for the duration of the Championship events. Luke continues “I learnt a lot at the Driver Development Course held at the AIS last year and feel that the extra work I have been doing at the gym will help with my stamina throughout the long races. We don't have the fastest car out there, so I am hoping to be able to hold my concentration longer and make no mistakes through the races.”The Southern Cross Prolite of Ben and Kelly is coming off a brilliant 2009 season. The crew took outright and class honors in the South Australia Off Road Racing Association series. This included numerous podium finishes, as well as Ben’s first outright victory at the Wynarka Enduro. The team has undertaken a rebuild of the Southern Cross to try and continue their impressive finishing rate from last year. The crew has a new Nissan VQ35 engine to put in their car, but unfortunately time hasn’t allowed it to be installed before the ARB Pinjarra Engineering Hyden 450. “We always look forward to coming across to the west for Round 1 of the Australian Off Road Championship. The track is great and although the competition in this class is growing, we are hoping for a very good result over there. It is disappointing the new engine wasn’t installed, but the ever reliable Mitsubishi engine still has plenty of torque to keep up with the pack.” Ben commented. The team touches down in Hyden on Thursday and is keen to get out to the track on Friday and get season 2010 underway. Erceg Motorsport would like to thank the following sponsors for their continued support: Coastal Express Deliveries, Popeye Motor Launches, Mac's Automotive Repairs, Specialty Tuning and Racer Imports. ** Follow the team and get updates and photos from the weekend on Erceg Motorsports Facebook page, by clicking “become a fan”. |
