Chapman’s Off Road Racing are heading west again PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 29 March 2010
420c_sm.jpgAll the hard work is done and Rob Chapman, Clayton Chapman and Adam McGuire are in the truck heading across the Nullarbor for Hyden with the Triton and the Pajero ready to race.

Garry Crick Mitsubishi from the Sunshine Coast Queensland have sponsored the Chapman’s Off Road Team this year, which has made it possible for them to make the trek across the Nullarbor again to do what they love doing, race off road. Cooper Tires, Staun Racing and Penrite Oils have also continued their sponsorship this year.

Clayton and Adam are keen to defend their Production 4WD Class Championship win in 2009 and are hoping they have a trouble free run at Hyden. Clayton is looking forward to catching up with other Production 4WD competitors. He has a very simple race plan – that is to drive really fast and finish the race!

384d_sm.jpgRob and Clayton, with the help of Adam and Ross, have spent the past few weeks preparing their cars for 2010. Rob, who races his naturally aspirated Pajero in Extreme 4WD class, said “I feel like I can’t do anymore to the vehicles. What we’ve got is what we’ve got. I’m really excited about racing again at Hyden, and thanks to our sponsors, this is possible”.

Rob’s navigator, Ross Challacombe will be flying over on Thursday with Brett Huxstep and Craig Houston. Brett and Craig have volunteered to be the pit crew for the Chapman’s Off Road Team for all rounds of the Australian Off Road Championship this year.

384b_sm.jpgOnce racing is done and dusted Clayton and Adam are flying directly to Canberra on Monday to attend the driver’s development program at the Australian Institute of Sport. They are both looking forward to it, however, as they pull up to the start line on Saturday morning, their only thoughts will be on getting the Triton to the finish line as fast as they can.

Rob’s wife Leila, who drives the Chapman’s twin turbo Pajero in Extreme 4WD class in the Queensland Off Road series, and other children Emma, Larissa and Stuart, are also flying over to support Rob and Clayton and to keep Rob company on the drive home to Queensland.

So all in all everyone is looking forward to a great weekend at the race track at Hyden.
