Jared Melville will be amongst a field of 25 plus Queensland off roaders taking to the track this weekend for their first taste of adrenalin fuelled racing for 2012.

Last year’s Gympie Short Course winner Melville will be working towards back to back honours at the Sexton track as he steers the #291 Razorback Super 1650 for the first time since the Retreat event in October last year. Melville, who is also the 2011 Queensland Short Course Series Champion, will be looking to bank valuable points at the opening round of the Queensland Short Course series and the Queensland Drivers Series.

The Gympie Short Course is the first event on the 2012 Australian Off Road Racing Calendar and 25 plus itchy feet off road racers are busy preparing their machines for the short course 11km event.

With rain staying clear of the venue since last Friday, track conditions are as perfect as they can be before the off road beasts take to the track.

The Chapman Off Road Racing team are heading to Sexton with their three car Mitsubishi team, facing off with the fellow tin tops of Nicole Melville and Melissa Hanlon in her debut drive.

In a battle of Extreme 2WDs, Chris Western will be running the Mickey Thomson Truck up against Kevin Nott’s Tundra Truck and Mick VanMoorsel’s #444 Chev 510; the debut drive for the #444 Extreme 2WD.

The Super 1650 class clash will be tough with Colin Gaven #295, Russell Hartnett in the #245 Cougar, Jared Melville and his Razorback up against Mark Andrews.

Two laps are planned for Saturday and a further four for Sunday, however, if time permits, the organisers will endeavour to run extra laps. Any competitors planning on entering can they please advise the organisers by Thursday for planning and catering purposes.
