Smithy’s Place Ready for Action
Monday, 26 March 2012
Western Desert Racers are all geared up for the ARB Total Asphalt & Traffic Management Hyden 400 2012.

The new naming rights sponsor Total Asphalt and Traffic management is an exciting addition to the race. Total Traffic management has always handled the road crossing duties at the Hyden events, and stepping up to a major sponsorship is indicative as how the sponsors feel about the growth of the sport in Western Australia and the Western Desert Racers club.

Scrutiny kicks off at Smithy’s Place 2pm on Good Friday followed by reconnaissance and the 15 kilometre prologue Saturday morning. This year the track will be run across two properties giving 67 kilometre laps with two on Saturday afternoon and four laps on Sunday making the full race distance of 400km. Local competitors are welcoming the opportunity to test their mettle at Hyden in a true endurance race with navigation and tactics being of increased importance.

With light rain forecast for the next week to add to the rain that fell last week the track conditions will be excellent and with a large number of competitors in Western Australia missing the chance to debut their new machines when round 1 of the state championship was rained out at Yealering, the nomination list should be include some brand new shiny metal.

In recognition of the importance of the event to the Hyden community the Government of Western Australia and Eventscorp WA have provided funding for the Hyden 400 through the Royalties for Regions Regional Event Scheme. This funding will be used to enable the Western Desert Racers to further strengthen their ties to the local community and promote the event and the region.

Event Information, including Supplementary Regulations, can be found here.
