The time has finally come to unveil the new look Erceg Motorsport Chenowth Millennium for the 2012 season.

1287b_sm Following another engine failure at the 2011 Parilla Enduro, the team decided to pull the Pro buggy off the track for the year and try and develop it to suit Luke’s driving style. Following the reliability and success of the ProLite combination of Ben’s Southern Cross, they decided to put the 6 litre Chev on the market and started hunting for a Nissan VQ35. The 5 speed Mendeola transaxle was also sold and the saving started for a 6-speed Albins.

“I have always preferred revving engines and after driving Dad’s Nissan powered ProLite I knew that the VQ35 was the engine for me. It was a pretty easy decision to make in the end and I love the close competition in the ProLite class” Luke said.

1287c_sm The work on the car began pretty much straight away with the initial focus on improving the steering. The steering arms were removed and reworked, along with the kingpin length to speed the steering up and increase the lock.

Next on the upgrades was to install the new trans and engine. The engine is 100% stock inside and will be kept this way for the rest of the year before it is reworked for the 2013 season. They went for a new 6 speed trans as they feel it helps to keep the V6 in its power band. All the work was done in house at the Erceg Motorsport workshop and the team is thrilled with the result.

The initial plans for 2012 are to compete in the South Australian Off Road Championship, the South Australian Off Road Racing Association Series, the Sea Lake Mallee Rally and the Teagle Excavations ARB Pines Enduro, with the 12 Hour Enduro in Alice Springs is the big event on their calendar for this season. The first event for their season is this weekend at the Mannum Enduro and the whole team is getting very excited about the first race in the new car.

1287d_sm “I can’t wait to see how the car performs. I am quite nervous and anxious about this weekend’s race. It is technically a new car with the steering, suspension, engine and trans all different from last year and I have no idea what to expect. The quality of the ProLite field in South Australia is fantastic and I’m very much looking forward to the challenges that the 2012 season will bring.”

Throughout the 2012 season the team will be designing and beginning to build a new ProLite for Ben. They are going to keep the same Nissan/Albins combination as their current cars but are going to put them in the new Matrix chassis.
