South Pumped for Mumbannar

The Millicent Sand Buggy Club are pumped up, ready to go racing at Sunday’s running of the Mumbannar Off Road Challenge.

1294b_sm 14 nominations were received by the close of early entries on Friday 13 and with entries open until 9am Sunday morning, more nominations are expected for the second round of the Millicent Sand Buggy Club Championship.

Held at Mumbannar about 30kms from Mount Gambier on the Heywood Road, just over the border into Victoria, the track will be 150km in total distance, comprising of two heats of ten laps. Scrutiny will be at the event between 9.00am-10.30am Victorian time on Sunday with competitor briefing at 11.00am and competition start at 11.30am.

1294c_smLast year’s winners Greg Gartner and Jamie Jennings are unable to make it to the event, leaving it open for another team to take the outright win. Ian Fish and Brenton Clarke will be back hoping to have another successful run in their Pro buggy after taking out the class win at round 1 of the Millicent Sand Buggy Club Championship at the Harvestco King of the Dunes.

Another local crew, and the current Australian champions in the Sportsman class Murray and Jake England, will be hoping to have a successful run after their class win at round 1. Preston North and Colin Spink will be back yet again hoping for successful run with Barry Edwards and Dale Cagney another local crew competing in their GU Nissan Patrol.

1294d_smLocal boys Shane and Mark Heemskerk will be hoping to have a good run after their second outright placing in the 2011 event. Russell Cairns is rumoured to be coming back, making the trip down from Warrnambool and hoping to do well as one of few competitors to compete in every race held at Mumbannar.

The husband and wife team of Andrew and Kelly Smith will be competing at their first event in a new A-arm buggy hoping to have a very successful debut run. Kingston competitors Andy Murdoch and Harry Lyon will be there with the Richard Bennet truck, currently the sole representative of Extreme 2WD class.

1294e_smAnother local crew looking to take to the Mumbannar track is Shane Wilson and Mark Jennings, hoping to get the ex Doug Coleman Patrol out of the shed and back racing. Ivan Schmocker might be in for a run in the Kadco buggy after his short run at Mannum.

The Mumbannar Off Road Challenge will be a great day out for family and friends to come and see some spectacular off road Racing.
