Kiera Mann-Piercy will be tackling her second ever event as a driver at the Narrogin Chase. After a long career navigating for her father Hugh, Kiera has now slotted comfortably behind the wheel of the Extreme 2WD Mazda RX-5.

1324b_sm The ARB Total Asphalt and Traffic Management Hyden 400 held over Easter was Kiera’s first attempt at an event as a driver and she recorded a second in class behind Kevin Hoods Pro Truck and 15th outright in a 40 strong field.

The Extreme 2WD class for the Narrogin Chase is extremely strong with six competitors entered, including the current Western Australian Off Road Champions Dirk Van Geest and Harleigh Urens buggy eating Navara.

The 415 Mazda RX-5 came through the Hyden event virtually trouble free, giving Kiera the confidence to have a red hot go at Narrogin before father Hugh steps behind the wheel for round 2 of the Western Australian Off Road Championship at Bencubbin.

1324c_sm Having competed at Harvey Short Course events as a navigator in the past, this type of off road racing is not new to Kiera “My first ever event as a navigator was at Harvey Short Course, I always loved the hard close racing with other cars, but this will be my first time as a driver, and also without Dad alongside me”.

Stewart Shepley will be stepping into the navigator seat of the Extreme 2WD and this will be his first time as a navigator having raced and crewed in the Digrite Racing Prolite over the past few seasons.

In an exciting development for the future Kiera has also been selected in the Women’s Junior Driver Development Program for 2012. “I’m absolutely stoked to have been accepted. I’ve been talking to the guys who did it last year and it sounds like a great opportunity.”
