Seat Belt Cutters
Wednesday, 30 May 2012
With nearly 200 off road vehicles going racing on the June long weekend, it’s an appropriate time for a reminder about the new rule regarding seat belt cutters.

1369b_sm Implemented on 8th April this year with CAMS Technical Bulletin Number B12/029, the requirement to have a seat belt cutter for each crew member in all off road vehicles is now mandatory.

Coming under the requirement of Emergency and First Aid, the bulletin reads “a commercially available seat belt cutting device for each occupant that is securely mounted within reach of that occupant and of a design that poses no cutting risk to the occupants”.

For those that the MBL Sea Lake Mallee Rally or the Tatts Finke Desert Race are their first events for the season, be aware that without seat belt cutters in your vehicles you won’t be permitted to race.

Contact your local off road products distributor, or check out PMD Race Products' range of cutters.  They have two types in stock; one that is solely a seat belt cutter and one that has the cutter and a hammer, so if needed, you can break a windscreen or side window.

1369c_sm “We’ve got both the seat belt cutters in stock and can despatch immediately for competitors who need them for the June long weekend” commented Phil Fraser of PMD Race Products. “I also suggest competitors check to see if their harnesses are in date. If you need cutters or harnesses let us know and we’ll get them sent out straight away.”

“We’ll be on site at Sea Lake, so if you run into trouble at scrutiny or need some bit and pieces over the weekend, drop into the display trailer.”
