The Hi-Tec Oils Riverland 300 is almost upon us for the 2012 year, scheduled for the weekend of 29th and 30th June and the 1st of July at Waikerie, in the South Australian Riverland.

The event will consist of Round 3 of the South Australian Off Road Championship, Round 2 of the Performance Metals Tri Series and Round 3 of the South Australian Off Road Racing Association Multiclub Series.

Waikerie is centrally located on the River Murray, approximately two hours from Adelaide and two and a half hours from Mildura. The weekend will be kick started with scrutiny and a show and shine on the Friday evening in Waikerie, commencing at 4pm at the Waikerie Football Oval. The football club will be catering for the night, including bar facilities for those who would like to relax in the warmth of the club rooms.

Saturday will see proceedings start at the track at 8:30am, beginning with reconnaissance. An action packed afternoon awaits, with prologue cars roaring into action at 12:30pm, followed at 3pm by the winner of the Hot Lap receiving their free ride in an Off Road Race Car.

There will be a Trophy Cart Demonstration held over the Top Ten Shootout Track followed by the Top Ten Shootout competitors racing for cash and prizes. Saturdays racing will come to a close with a two course roast meal for dinner and DJ and the chance for everyone to chew over the day’s events.

The Waikerie Apex Club will be providing catering for the weekend, starting with a bacon and egg breakfast on the Saturday morning and going through to the Sunday race finish, including bar facilities. There is ample camping available at the track which creates a great atmosphere with race teams being able to socialise throughout the weekend.

Sunday will see it all happen around the track when racing begins at 9am. The format of the South Australian Off Road Championship and the Performance Metals Tri-Series will take a slightly different turn this year with the ‘First Past the Post of 5 Laps’ determining placing’s. The South Australian Off Road Racing Association Multiclub Series will consist of 3 laps of the track.

The event is one that is well supported and always attracts a strong contingent of competitors from South Australia, Victoria and the Northern Territory. “This year we have competitors coming from as far as Western Australia and Queensland eager to tear up the track, so it is shaping up the be another fantastic event with expectation of a strong field of 70 plus entries” commented a club representative.

Locals who are looking to again conquer the Waikerie course are Brad Gallard after his sensational win at the Tatts Finke Desert Race this year, the Element Racing Team’s Haby Brothers, Lindsay Foster - after his first in class and third outright results at the first Australian Off Road Championship round and Toby Francombe in his Rids Racing Joker Frame who, after leading the race at Sea Lake bowed out with CV trouble.

Honorary local Chris Western and the Mickey Thompson Rush Truck will again be making the journey home to compete, so it is shaping up to be an exciting event.
