Retreat Steps It Up
Thursday, 28 June 2012
The Mackay Off Road Racing Club have stepped up to the challenge and running the Opposite Lock Mackay Retreat 200 as a Queensland Off Road Championship round this weekend.

Due to the cancellations of previous rounds to be held in the south, this weekend will be the first time Queenslanders can take to the track to earn valuable Championship points.

With the Queensland Off Road Championship reduced to three rounds, North Queenslanders will be hoping to get on the front foot and bag the points before the Championship heads south to the Albins Off Road Gear Goondiwindi 400 in August. The final round will be the Gatton Australian Off Road Championship round in November.

To date, only three Southern Queenslanders are heading north for the first round; the Chapman Offroad Racing team and their stable of three Mitsubishi 4WD’s making the 10 hour trek north to support the Mackay Off Road Racing Clubs initiative.

The track is marked and ready to go, with the little rain received helping to settle the dust.

20 nominations are confirmed, but with entries open until late Friday, the organisers are hoping for a few more late entries.

The nomination list contains all the regular North Queensland suspects including the Marson brothers, Rob Turner, Graham Moohin, Brian Moohin, Peter Moohin, Greg Moohin, Andrew North, Mark Edmonds, Dave Nielsen, Phil Dunn, Kev Ballmet, Talbot Cox, Chris Colbourne and the Sievers.

Unfortunately Steve Gates has been unable to make repairs to his machine in time after mechanical issues at the previous event.

Major sponsor, the Opposite Lock Mackay, along with Redline Honda, will have a merchandise display and to keep the little off roaders entertained, a jumping castle.

The Retreat Hotel has confirmed they’ll have a buffet breakfast both days starting at 4.30am and live entertainment Saturday night.
