Mowles triumphant on home turf - Updated
Monday, 24 September 2012
Andrew Mowles has driven the #135 Razorback to outright victory at this weekend’s running of the NT Titles held at the Alice Springs Off Road Club’s Mt Ooraminna circuit.

The two day event saw Mowles finish with a four minute lead over fellow ProLite racer and 2011 NT Titles outright victor Locky and Paddy Weir in the #155 machine with Bernard Gwynne and Justin Steadman #440 a further 11minutes27seconds behind Weir.

Dylan Blake and Brett Taylor #450 were almost an hour off the pace of Mowles to finish the NT Titles in fourth outright and second in Extreme 2WD class. Rick Schembri with Steve Russell in the navigators seat rounded out the NT Titles podium and secured first in Pro class in the #50 machine.

Sixth outright and a class victory went to Rod Berry with Loretta Donaldson and Craig Meekings sharing the navigators seat in the #505 Performance 2WD. The seventh and last competitor to complete all ten laps was Wayne and Hayden Foley driving the #284 Super 1650 to the finish line in 5h17m26seconds.

16 nominations took to the track with seven completing full race distance of 10 laps and a further two classified as finishers. The attrition rate was high and varied starting with Craig Prettejohn and Richie Hayes, their weekend ending before the event started with the #223 Super 1650 unable to start with computer issues.

Jason and Jane Adami weren’t far behind, their NT Titles over during Saturdays prologue when the engine dropped a valve.

Axle Greening and Tim Coach had ongoing electrical gremlins with the #268 Super 1650 all weekend. The team continually limping back to the pits to try and sort out the problems, only to start each section but only get half a lap in before returning to the pits.

The Sportsman #384 of Grant Ballentine and Richard Hawkins succumbed to left hand rear suspension arm failure at the end of the first two lap section on Saturday, while the interstate entry of Wally and daughter Maree Francombe, trekking from the South Australian Riverland, suffered gearbox failure in the first lap of the night section in the #42 Joker Rids Race Frame Pro buggy.

Another out with electrical gremlins was Greg Hicks and Shane Braitling #123 while Scott and Courtney Raven broke the front suspension in the #269 Super 1650 at the end of the night leg.

Only completing seven laps but enough to meet the 50% to be classified as a finisher rule was Andrew Pinto and Jol Pritchard. Pinto is the hard luck story for the weekend, as after leading the event all weekend, came in at the end of the three laps on Sunday morning and the engine flamed out and they were unable to start for the final 3 x 5 lap sprint at the end, handing the win to Andrew Mowles.

Racking up eight laps out of the possible ten was Wayne Cullenane and Danny Bartels, the #470 beast bending a tail shaft on the first lap of the night leg, the team fixing overnight to resume racing on Sunday.
