All Aboard for Tyrrell Downs
Friday, 28 September 2012
Cool with the possibility of morning showers is what’s in store for the 23 strong field of competitors for tomorrows Tyrrell Downs Short Course. With the track receiving light showers in the week leading up to the event, the Sea Lake Off Road Club are expecting near perfect racing conditions, with the light rain expected to settle the dust.

Favourite to take home the silverware for the Mallee Shield status event would have to be multiple Australian Off Road Champion Mark Burrows with Mick Shannon and Sean Ratcliffe sharing the navigating duties. Shannon will be stepping back into the seat after a few years hiatus while Ratcliffe tried his hand at navigating at the recent Australian Off Road Championship Round, the Teagle Excavations ARB Pines Enduro where he guided Burrows and the #21 Jimco into third outright.

Another couple of quick peddlers in podium contention is brother David and Malcolm Simpson who will be debuting their new drive, the #95 Porter previously campaigned by SMU Racing’s Matt Hanson and the Mount Gambier based team of Garry Turnbull and Chris Proud #79, crossing the border into Victorian territory.

A strong field of eight Super 1650s will take to the track including the first run for Carley Wells, daughter of former Australian Off Road Champion Daren Wells. Wells will be driving the Wells & Co Bunderson Super 1650 #218 around the 15km Tyrrell Downs track after her original debut event, the Off Road Masters was put on hold when brother Daniel rolled the buggy at the June running of the MBL Sea Lake Mallee Rally.

Tyrrell Downs will come alive at 10:30 when competitors will start their ten laps of the 15km course, vying to add points to their Mallee Shield bank.
