AORC 1 ... 8 Weeks To Go
Tuesday, 05 February 2013

With eight weeks to go the Western Desert Racers are busy making preparations to kick off the 2013 Australian Off Road Championship season.

The race will take on a new format with scrutiny on Friday with competitors given a check in time for their paperwork and vehicle inspection.

Reconnaissance will take place Saturday morning for both the prologue and main course, which is envisaged will be around 80 kilometres.

Saturday afternoon will be the running of the prologue and the Top Ten Shoot Out. The top ten prologue finishers will have their results wiped and a fresh attempt at the 15km prologue circuit could shake up the starting order for the race proper.

Sunday will see the cars grid up for a single section event comprising six laps for Australian Off Road Championship competitors and three laps for the Western Australian Off Road Championship campaigners.

“With around 120 kilometres of tracks available around Smithy’s place, the 80km track length will enable the track marking crew to avoid the areas of track that are most severely affected by drought” commented Jeremy Beck.

He continued “Bronwyn and Adam from HPSM Sports Management have some great initiatives planned for the 2013 Australian Off Road Championship and many of these will be in place at Hyden, which is a great achievement in the timeframe they have been at the job. We will leave the announcements and details to them but suffice to say we are very excited.”

As usual the facilities at the Smithy’s complex are primed and ready including the shop, Legends Bar and the Desert Café. Camping is available at the track with a modest fee to the club collected at the gate. There is still some accommodation available within Hyden 20 minutes from the track.

The Hyden 450 is proudly supported by Eventscorp through the Regional Events Scheme and the Department of Regional Development and Lands through the Royalties for Regions program.
