Record Numbers for Season Opener
Thursday, 14 February 2013
Close on forty Queensland off road racers will take up the challenge of the Moore Off Road Classic this weekend; record numbers for the Queensland season opener.

With light dust settling showers forecast, the strong field have shown support for the local round and rewarding the landowners and track restoration volunteers for all their hard work over the last month.

The short course nature of the event allows for vehicles to be double entered with a number of teams taking this approach to the weekend. Heading the double entered list is the Team Taylor GET Pro machine with Nev and Ryan Taylor sharing the driving duties of the #6 beast.

Tony Fehlhaber and Gary Howell have double entered the #138 Mirage with Tony’s youngest daughter taking on the navigating duties. The team usual drive, the #138 Chenowth, is undergoing pre-season modifications in readiness for their 2013 campaign. “I’m looking forward to getting back into the old car and going for a run. It’s been over 18 months since the Mirage was last raced” commented Tony Fehlhaber.

Regulars on the Queensland circuit, Colin Gavin and Mark Andrew will both have a drive of the #295 Super 1650 machine while the landowners, the husband and wife team of Darren and Nicole Orr will jointly drive their #826 Extreme 4WD.

In a list that is tin top heavy, with 23 of the 37 nominations from the tin top classes, there are some old favourites out for run and new car and competitors heading to Moore for their first taste of off road racing. Brett Morgan #831 and John Butler #708 will both cut their off road teeth at the short course track along with Jamie Knight, running the ex Billy Geddes Richard Bennet Truck #439.

The Chapman Off Road Team will head north with their three Mitsubishi stable of off road machines with Clayton Chapman stepping back into the Triton #781 while his new Extreme 4WD Triton nears completion. “We’re pretty sure the new car will be ready for Finke” commented Rob Chapman. With Clayton in the Triton, Dad Rob will take the reins for the Pajero #871 with son Stuart in the navigator’s seat. “Stuart had a run at Mackay, but we didn’t get one lap in, so we’re hoping this will be his first full race” added Rob Chapman. Making it an all family affair, daughter Larissa will be navigating for Mum Leila in the #835 Pajero.

Shaun Swaffield has nominated for his debut drive in the ex Matt Owen Alumi Craft Pro Lite #110, having only taken delivery a few weeks ago, while the UTV #625 of Graham Moohin will be trekking south from Polaris country to take on the southerners.

The South East Queensland Off Road Racing Association have pulled out all the stops to get the track repaired for this weekend’s onslaught of off road machines after it sustained substantial damage from recent rains.
