Lockyer 300 - Communique No 1
Wednesday, 06 March 2013

With the first round of the 2013 Australian Off Road Championship fast approaching, competitors, organisers and crews will hit the track in just over three weeks at the Komatsu – Brooks Hire Hyden 450.

The organisers of the final round of the Championship, The Brisbane Sporting Car Club, are also in full swing planning for their October event.

The club and dedicated volunteer locals are already preparing for the 2013 Lockyer 300, with the organisers in discussions about a new event format and changes to the track. With some new and fresh ideas on the table, the aim is to make the event more enjoyable for competitors and spectators, with the first task to be tackled, to make the track usable in all weather conditions.

Members of the organising committee headed out to the site in late January to do preliminary reconnaissance work, to find alternate routes around where track blockages could occur.

With new tracks being added to the race course, and some sections removed, the total lap distance has only decreased by less than 5km. Other sections that could not be by-passed will be widened. It is planned for the track work to be undertaken in late March, and should for more spectacular racing along with a lot more overtaking opportunities for competitors.

A new event format is also being discussed as are plans to extend the track around the main arena to give spectators more of an opportunity to see the race vehicles in action, before they disappear into the beautiful foothills of the Lockyer Valley.

Another initiative undertaken for 2013 by the Brisbane Sporting Car Club is to help keep spectators and competitors well informed with all promotional events, track preparations and information involving the Lockyer 300 event.

Not only will regular updates be available on offroadracing.com.au, keeping all interested parties informed about the event, a FaceBook page has been established to help attract new spectators from the large population base within an hour of the Lockyer 300 venue.

The Lockyer 300 FaceBook page can be found at facebook.com/Lockyer 300.

Event Information will be posted here when released.
