Hartnett Racing are trekking the long five day trip from their Queensland base to the first round of the Australian Off Road Championship at Hyden in Western Australia with the aim of taking home a trophy and banking as many Super 1650 championship points as possible.

1783b_sm “Russ and I are heading to WA to start another assault on the AORC in Super 1650 class. A five day journey for two days of racing, followed by a five day trip home again; hopefully with a trophy on board for the return journey” commented Judy Hartnett, team navigator.

The team finished the 2012 Australian Off Road Championship with a third in Super 1650 class, earning the right to don the #203 plate, narrowly missing out on second in class by a mere eight points.

Judy went on to say “we had mixed results last year at the AORC events. We competed at all four rounds, with good results at Sea Lake and Goondiwindi. However, engine issues ended our weekend at Millicent and steering problems called a halt to Lockyer Valley, resulting in DNFs for the last two events. Our plan is to better this result in 2013, starting with round 1 at Hyden.”

“We competed at Hyden two years ago; a year that saw a number of Queenslanders make the trip across country. We finished the race despite some difficulties arriving at the finish line as the sun was going down.”

2013 sees five Queensland teams heading across the Nullarbor to test their skills against the strong contingent of local Western Australian competitors as they take on the infamous Smithy’s track at Hyden in the Western Australian Wave Rock tourist region.
