Points seem to be the order of the day at day one of racing at the first round of the Australian Off Road Championship this Easter weekend.

Outer Bounds Racing are campaigning two off road machines at Smithy’s Place with brother Beau and Travis behind the wheels.

Travis Robinson with Paul Currie undertaking the navigating duties had an ideal start to the day, taking second in the prologue run, going one better in the top ten shoot out to secure the first place on the start grid and the much envied dust free run.

Unfortunately, the good run ended there with the very early withdrawal of Travis and the Jimco #13 from section one with computer failure; the team returning to the pits as the sixth car was about to start. The first diagnosis was electrical gremlins and then later thought to be the Jimco’s computer. The Jimco is now up and running on song and ready for four laps of Sunday’s competition. “We’re looking for points; so if I can go out and get four laps in tomorrow, that should put me in a good position going into round two at Finke” added Travis.

The second car in the Outer Bounds Racing stable is the #413 Geiser Brothers Trophy Truck of Beau Robinson with Ken Skinner in the navigator’s seat. Beau put down an impressive prologue time, clocking in tenth, but the first Extreme 2WD. He then moved up into seventh after the running of the top ten shoot out.

When asked how his day of racing at Hyden went, Beau commented “we lost brakes about 5km in from the start, and then at the 40km we lost oil pressure. So we cruised in home, but we were slow. We’ll have it fixed and ready to go racing tomorrow. We’ll be hunting down Billy Geddes; he has the a sister Geiser Brothers Trophy Truck, so we want to keep pace with him, or better still, in front of.
