2013 is the year that Garry Simpson wants to tick winning either one, two or three in the ProLite Class for Australian Off Road Championship off his bucket list.

He is well on his way with an 11th outright and third in class at round 2, the Tatts Finke Desert Race, as he heads to the Bentley Cabin Park Flinders 450 at Baroota this weekend.

“We ended up with a reasonable result at Finke, although it wasn’t easy. We had two flat tyres, one before we even left Finke. The crew had already left for Alice; we had to get them back so we’d have a spare for the run home” explained Garry Simpson.

2068b_sm With daughter Amanda in the navigators seat, the Alumi Craft also had fuel dramas on the run to Finke with the fuel gauge showing that they’d used more fuel than anticipated. With 44km to go to Finke, Simpson backed off and nursed the #140 machine to the Sunday finish line.

The problems didn’t end there, the team losing power steering on the return run to Alice Springs, however they completed the full race distance come Monday of the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.

“We were actually pretty lucky; we had two flats for the weekend, one at Finke before we left and the other in the staging area when we got to the finish line at Alice Springs”.

“There is a strong field of ProLites entered at Baroota, so we’ll have our work cut out for us, but we’re hoping for some decent points, to give us an edge going into the final two rounds of the Championship at Coffs Harbour and then Lockyer Valley.”

When asked about his bucket list Garry explained “well I really want to win the ProLite Class Championship, but I’m also hoping to race in the United States at Parker in January next year. That’s the real ticket on the bucket list”.
