Waikerie Riverland Off Road Association (WRORA) - the Riverland South Australia based off road club is excited to announce that they have been successful in securing the third round of the 2014 Australian Off Road Championship.

2293b_smThe Club has been running off road races for over 30 years and have been involved with the off road racing scene since its grass roots in the 70s. The last time that the club ran the race as a national event was in 1992, so they are very keen to take the event back to this level in 2014.

The race is run on farm land near Waikerie on a track that is approximately 76km long and the cars and buggies compete over a variety of terrains including jumps, woops, sand, rocky sections, hills, and flats through tight scrubby tracks and open straights, cars can reach speeds up to 240km/hr.

2293c_smThis spectacular motorsport, which is currently one of the fastest growing in the country, is starting to see a large following as the AORC is being seen nationally on TV on Channel 7, 7mate and Foxtel, with well-known sports commentator Mark Berretta comparing the programs.

The event, which has been known as the Hi Tec Oils Enduro for the last four years, has been a very popular South Australian event and has attracted fields of cars from all over Australia. They expect their numbers to grow from the current entry level of 55 to 80 cars up to 80 to 100. “We already attract some of Australia's best off road racers, now as an Australian Off Road Championship event we expect that we are going to get a lot more” explained James Lochert.

2293d_sm The Event will be held over the weekend of July 5th 6th and 7th, which is the first weekend of the school holidays in South Australia, starting with scrutiny of the vehicles on the Friday evening on the town oval, followed with a display of the vehicles under lights into the evening where the public can get up close with the cars and their teams to learn more about the sport and see how these highly modified vehicles work. The Waikerie footy club provides full catering and bar facilities for the evening. Full catering will continue at the track for the duration of the event for competitors and spectators.

The next day is when the real action will get underway at the track, which is located approximately 20km west of Waikerie on Enduro Rd and is an easy 1hr 40min drive from Adelaide. Action will commence midday on the Saturday when the Prologue will begin, followed by the Top Ten Shoot Out and Dash for Cash. This spectacular afternoon of qualifying has been attracting crowds in the thousands to see these specialised machines put through their paces.

2293e_smSunday morning is when the business end of the weekend starts and the racing begins. There will be three levels of entry which competitors will have a choice of. There will be the South Australian Off Road Racing Association (SAORRA) Multiclub event which is the lowest entry fee and competitors will need to complete three laps at this level.

The middle range entry level is the South Australian Off Road Championship where competitors complete at least four laps and at then the Australian Off Road Championship entry level where competitors will need to complete at least five laps to be a winner. This is the same format the club has run successfully over the past few years but now will include a round of the Australian Off Road Championship Competition.

The town of Waikerie, as well as the Riverland region, will be expecting to see a boost to the region's economy as more visitors come to the district before, during and after the race, but also to the flow on effects as promotion of the area through TV coverage of the event as it is aired on national TV.

There will be 5 rounds of the AORC for 2014:
19-21 April (Easter) Kalgoorlie WA
6-9 June Finke NT
4-6 July Waikerie SA
13-14 September Coffs Harbour NSW
17-19 October Lockyer Valley Qld
