As hosts of the third round of the 2014 Australian Off Road Championship, the Waikerie Riverland Off Road Association are enthusiastic about the events progress with new and exciting things on the agenda. Planning is well underway for the 2014 Riverland Enduro to be held over the weekend of July 4th-6th.

2366b_sm “Waikerie is located in the Riverland of South Australia just under two hours east of Adelaide, and a little over two hours West of Mildura on the banks of the River Murray. Horticulture, particularly wine grapes and citrus, along with tourism, are the life blood of the region” explained James Lochert, Waikerie Riverland Off Road Association President. “There are many places that are worth a visit whilst you are in the area, so feel welcome to stay a while and explore what our beautiful region has to offer.”

The Supplementary Regulations have been submitted to CAMS and are currently going through the official processes.

2366c_sm Initial interest in the event has been welcoming, and the club are excited about the event once again being a round of the Australian Off Road Championship.

You will be able to enter the event at one or more of the three entry levels.
National Level - Round 3 of the 2014 Australian Off Road Championship (AORC).
State Level - Round 1 of the 2014 South Australian Off Road Championship (SAORC).
Club Level - Round 3 of the 2014 South Australian Off Road Racing Associations Multi Club Series (SAORRA).

The cost of entry are shown in the table below. “The State and SAORRA entry costs have been maintained at 2013 prices and we have also tried to keep the price affordable for those who wish to enter at the AORC level.”

2366d_sm This year the race format will be much the same as in the past. Friday night scrutiny will get underway at 4pm at the Waikerie Town Oval, alongside the Riverfront on the mighty Murray.

After being scrutineered, the cars will be on display for the public to see and talk with crews until 8pm. Teams will be able to enjoy the great atmosphere and excitement in the lead up to the race. Full catering will be provided Friday night by the Waikerie Football Club, including the bar.

The track is located approximately 17km west of Waikerie along Enduro Road; follow the signs from the highway from whichever direction you are coming.

Camping is available at the track and there are toilets and showers provided. Camping fees are collected on Saturday night; school students are free and adults are $10 each.

On Saturday there will be full catering provided at the track, starting with an early breakfast; full bar facilities will also be available. The Waikerie Apex Club have a soup and roast meal available for Saturday night’s dinner; tickets can be purchased on the day. The music and bonfires will keep you warm and entertained until curfew at 11pm. Full catering, including breakfast will again be available on Sunday.

Reconnaissance of the entire course will commence at 8:30am on Saturday. Prologue will follow reconnaissance at 11:30am and then the Top Ten Shoot Out and the very popular Dash for cash.

Spectators are well catered for with excellent spectating available on the spectating mound. This year if you want to see the race from a different perspective, you will be able to have a ride with Barossa Helicopters.

The event will consist of 5 laps of the approximately 75 km circuit, the surface of which is sand and some limestone and will be run as a one section first past the post format. There will be a compulsory one hour break after lap 2 for all competitors and a 15 minute break after lap 4 for AORC competitors.

The start control will close 15 minutes after the first AORC competitor has completed 5 laps. No new laps will be commenced once the first AORC competitor has completed 5 laps, unless in the pits on your 15 minute break.

The finish control will close 75 minutes after the first competitor has completed 5 laps. AORC outright and class places will be scored on the most number of laps up to 5 completed in the fastest time. To be classed a finisher of the AORC & SAORC you must have completed a minimum of 3 laps. SAORC competitors may complete up to four laps, SAORRA competitors must complete ALL 3 laps within the allowed time.

“If you would like accommodation the Waikerie township is booking out quickly, but there is still accommodation close by; the towns of Morgan and Blanchetown are also very close to race venue, where there is still plenty of accommodation available. Experiencing a stay on a house boat is a great and very affordable option for a team or family and is a great experience so you can enjoy the mighty Murray during your stay.” Click here for a list of accommodation option.

“There is plenty more exciting news about our event to come, so stay tuned as we will have more information soon!”
