Pedders Suspension Coffs Coast 400 - Update 1
Thursday, 26 June 2014
Preparations and planning for the fourth round of the Australian Off Road Championship, the Pedders Suspension Coffs Coast 400 are well underway. Tuesday 24th June saw the official launch of the Coats Hire Rally Australia, which includes the Pedders Suspension Coffs Coast 400, marking the event as only 77 days away.

2536b_sm Over the weekend of the 31st May to 2nd June, the Clerk of the Course for the Pedders Suspension Coffs Coat 400, Murray Rogers, visited Coffs Harbour and inspected the proposed new venue and course.

Murray Rogers explained the new site sees the event move closer to Coffs Harbour, with the main staging area and the start / finish arena, 27kms North West of Coffs Harbour on Bucca Road. There is main road bitumen access direct to the front gate.

“During my recent visit I met with Graham Hardaker and Melissa Forbes who are leading the local committee which is doing the on ground hard work. There is a lot of work involved in setting up the new venue and course, but the local team are 'full steam ahead' with preparations."

2536c_sm “The main focus for my visit in early June was to finalise the course, which is made up of forestry roads, that are rough but fast and challenging, along with a mix of farm land tracks. The total course length is 50km and we will be racing eight laps of it over the course of the weekend, for a race distance of 400km.”

"I am confident that the competitors will like the new course which I would class a technical and definitely a driver's track."

The event will be dual status, giving anyone that would like to experience "Coffs Off Road" but are not competing in the Australian Off Road Championship an opportunity to do so by paying a lesser entry fee and racing over 6 laps.

2536d_sm There will be an additional spectator viewing area about 2km from the main arena that will give spectators another opportunity view the extreme capabilities of the off road vehicles.

The supplementary regulations are being finalised and should be with CAMS to go through the formal processes shortly and then online entries will open on the 1st of August and close on the 28th of August.

While the event schedule is still being finalised, here is a summary of the proposed activities. Vehicle scrutiny will be at the Bucca Road staging area on Friday 12th September morning to mid afternoon, with promotional and media ride slots available Friday early afternoon. Friday night will be free of off road commitments thereby giving everyone a chance to take in the sights and sounds of the World Rally cars. Saturday will see reconnaissance, prologue and section 1 which will be three laps of the 50km course. A further five laps will be run on Sunday, with a 45minute service break after lap three.

The Pedders Suspension Coffs Coat 400 will be using the RallySafe GPS Tracking and Safety System to assist with the tracking, recovery and overall safety of competitors.
