Hanson and Wells take on the dunes.
Saturday, 18 February 2017
Leigh Wells has returned to the navigating seat in the #7 SMU Racing Jimco for this weekends Harvestco King of the Dune, the opening round of the CAMS Victorian Off Road Championship, along side 2012 Aus #1 driver Matt Hanson.

We’re looking forward to the start of the Off Road Racing season for SMU Racing at Portland King of the Dunes this weekend. A massive thanks to Tim Collard, Shane Wilson and AVR Performance in getting us to the start line in what looks to be a competitive field come Saturday” said Matt Hanson.

“We have continued to refine our Ford Eco Boost during the off season as the team looks to build on a promising end to the 2016 season. Leigh Wells is back for the first time since 2015 in the hot seat, which will be fun as the team heads to the sand dunes where they have had great times over the journey.”

This weekend will be Matt Hanson’s 19th Portland race – the first one being back in January 1984 as navigator for father Neil as a 12 year old. His first Portland race as a driver was in 1989 with Johnny Webster sitting in the navigator’s seat. Time rolls on!

“Good luck to all those competing , and looking forward (maybe a little too much) to the festivities of Saturday night! Safe travels and look forward to seeing those venturing down to the dunes.”
