A very early morning start saw competitors and officials attending competing crew briefing as the sun rose over the Stackpoole camping round at the opening round of the ARB Australian Off Road Racing Series, the ARB Town and Country Tyres Stackpoole 400.

Teams hit the track for prologue just after sunrise with Andy Ryan and Dave Smith blitzing the 90 strong field. 10:15am and it was time for Class 2, 3, 5, 6, 66, 7, 8 and 10 to have their crack at the 64km Stackpoole track. This year sees the advent of a split field format with the lower horsepower cars taking to the track on Saturday and the Unlimited, Class 1 and 4 machines on Sunday’s start line; a move which proved extremely popular with competitors.

Saturday’s podium come the end of 400km of dusty off road racing saw Steven (Bowie) and Daryl Graham in his Class 10 #1064 top the time sheets, 5m ahead of Peter Hunt and Tom Vearing #253.

Dean Meginley and Dean DeMarco #215 edged out Darran Vanderwoude and David Schultz #554 after a time allowance was made for his compassionate stop on the last lap.

Action returns to Stackpoole at 8:30am Sunday morning when the Andy Ryan Dave Smith #50 will lead the 43 field of Unlimited, Class 1 and 4 machines on the track.
