Sportzprint – On the road

The road to success is rarely smooth and without peril. For Anthony Telfer this road has been dusty, winding but at the same time exciting and rewarding where he has been found in some of the most remote and beautiful corners of Australia. Anthony is the Owner and Managing Director of Sportzprint, a Mildura based printing business with a pedigree in customized garment decoration - but with a twist, where all garments are either printed or embroidered on site at every event Sportzprint attends.

As you may be aware, Anthony is the current President of the Willowfest Australian Cricket Club Championships and has been since 2000 and, over the past 12 months, has guided, developed and expanded the competition to the International stage with an Indian team competing in late 2016. Since then there have been another ten International team’s express interest for the up and coming season in 2017. This has been Anthony’s first love since playing in his first Willowfest in 1979. Willowfest now has grand plans to become a 12 month of the year competition, and is also looking to take the Championships to the World, as the Willowfest World Cricket Club Championships.

Unfortunately, something had to give and with great regrets and with a tried and tested business model now in place, Telf has decided to offer the unique onsite Merchandise print/embroidery service up for sale.

Sportzprint has specialised in on-site, custom garment creation and has secured lucrative partnerships with several of Australia’s premier off road racing events. From its humble beginnings in 2004 of transporting a printer to remote events in the back of a Holden one-tonne ute. Sportzprint has evolved its unique business model to now utilise a custom tri-axel trailer and, with the help of GJS, recently fitted the trailer out with a Brother DTG garment printer and pre-treatment machine.

Sportzprint’s mobile print shop travels over 40,000km per year and can easily print over 150 t-shirts each day at an event – a first of its kind concept here in Australia. The trailer is totally self-sufficient with its own 7.5kva Honda Invertor generator providing power in the most remote places in Australia. In addition, the trailer also has a Barudan single head embroidery machine providing quality embroider for caps, polos and jackets through the winter months.

Full training for all the equipment will be an integral part of the sale of the business. It is going to be important to ensure quality products and services will continue to be provided for the events who have supported Sportzprint over the past 18 years. All who have become great friends and trusted clients.

The demand for Sportzprint’s services is so great that it has partnerships in place providing printing services for around 25 separate events per year – on average, one every two weeks. Some of the key events include the ARB Australian Off Road Racing Series and the Australian Junior MX Championships; and along with many other State Rounds and National Speedway titles.

Simply put, Sportzprint will provide merchandise for any motorsport event anywhere in Australia. From Western Australia to Queensland and everywhere between. The model also lends itself to franchising, another area Anthony wanted to develop and focus on in the future.

Once onsite, the challenges are almost the same as a bricks and mortar printing business, including customer artwork and design. Sportzprint has access to both International and Australia’s finest graphic designers ensuring the quality of the artwork on the finished product remains unique and exceptional. These designers have agreed to support the new owners going forward. A fundamentally important part of the business.

In addition to creating merchandise for each event, Sportzprint really demonstrates the versatility of the service by even offering individual team designs (some 40 off road teams) and participant garments with either their name or racing number custom printed on each garment.

At some events there can be up to 1000 competitors/teams participating, which can result in the Sportzprint team working through the night to deliver garments to race participants.

When not on the road or working at an event, the trailer can also provide embroidered garments and printed T shirts for local, state and international clients. The new owners will gain access to all the motorsport artwork and client base.

If you are genuinely looking for a lifestyle change and want to travel Australia whilst working, then this opportunity is for you. The business would suit a husband and wife team and people who love their motorsport and/or wish to further develop the customer/client base to other sporting industries.

If you are genuinely interested then give Anthony a call to discuss.
