The NT Picnic Day August long weekend sees the annual pilgrimage of offroaders to the Mt Ooraminna Motorsport Complex, 30km south of Alice Springs, for the running of the only 12 hour endurance event in Australia.

With a total prize pool of $17,000 on offer, the 2017 Sporties 12 Hour Enduro is set to be a cracker event. When entering, competitors will nominate in teams of two cars in either the Club team or Pro team. Club team is a two car team consisting of a car from either Pro, ProLite and Extreme 2WD classes and a car from Super 1650, Sportsman, SportsLite, Performance 2WD, Production 4WD and Extreme 4WD classes.

The Pro teams are a two car team from either Pro, ProLite and Extreme 2WD classes.

The $17,000 prize pool will be split over the two teams categories with staggered payments down the outright order.

The rules of the game are simple – one of the team cars must be running at the end of the 12 hours for the team to be classified as finishers.

Greg Hicks took out the hat trick of Sporties 12 Hours victories in 2016 and will be aiming for his fourth consecutive title this year. Previously teamed with Craig Prettlejohn, this year sees Hicks planning to team up with Locky Weir; the two ProLite cars campaigning in the Pro team category.

Brett Taylor has already staked his interest; the ex Peter Kittle Jimco Trophy Truck planning to team up with South Australian Luke Erceg in his Matrix ProLite to go head to head with Hick and Weir in the Pro team category.

The Sporties 12 Hour Enduro action kicks off on Friday at 5:30pm in the Todd Mall outside the Sporties Restaurant for vehicle scrutiny. Teams will then move down to the Mt Ooraminna Motorsport complex for prologue commencing at 4pm on Saturday 5th August. The Sporties 12 Hour Enduro goes green at 7am Sunday 6th August with the checkered flag dropping 12 hours later at 7pm.

Adding to the uniqueness of the event, the Alice Springs Motorcycle club run an enduro event side by side with the cars at the Mt Ooraminna complex. Run on a separate track the two disciplines share facilities and spectators are treated to a double dose of motorsport action. The cars have a 60km course and the bikes a 40km track through the Mt Ooraminna Station heartland.

The supplementary regulations are going through the final stages of the approval process and should be released soon. Anyone interested in entering should contact the Alice Springs Off Road Club to register their interest.
