Century Batteries Wynarka Enduro.. set to race
Sunday, 30 July 2017
Now that a very successful Waikerie Enduro has been run and won, South Australian off roaders can turn their attention to the town of Wynarka in the South Australian Mallee country for Round 5 of the SAORRA Multi Club series on August 12th & 13th August, the Century Batteries Wynarka Enduro.

The Wynarka Enduro is in its 32nd year and is a popular South Australian based event drawing 40plus cars year on year. This event normally attracts a quality outright field, as well as good numbers across all classes, however this year they are particularly chasing the 4WD classes as these classes are making a resurgence in the local off road racing scene.

“We have received a good response from five teams in the 4WD fraternity and hope that some of the South East guys may bring their cars for a run; after showing them off at Mumbannar earlier in the year.”

“We are hoping that our past winners may return this year to chase the title; Aaron and Liz Haby (2011, 2015, 2016), Brenton Forsyth (2014), Carl Haby (2012, 2013), we will also see if anyone can top the lap record of 9:45:14 – Jack Rhodes (2015).

Discussions with competitors last weekend showed good interest in this year’s race again with ten or more teams looking to enter after a successful Waikerie campaign.

The track is a favourite with local competitors and spectators. The course is 20km long with normally 40 plus cars, so there is always action in front of the spectator areas. It passes the main spectator area, (which is also the camp area) 5 times per lap, so following the race / placing’s is quite easy, and the ability to see who is catching up or losing time is noticeable throughout the lap. Also with a race start of two cars every 15 seconds both days, the action is fast and furious from the start of the race.

Racing will be both Saturday afternoon and Sunday, so there will be plenty of action for both competitors and spectators all weekend. The track a mixture of fast straights and a small amount of scrub sections. The track is mainly hard packed dirt, quarry rubble and limestone with very small sections of sand (500m).

“We are again this year trying to inject new things into the event. Competitors will again be receiving a promotional pack from Century Batteries at registration as well as Century Batteries providing Class and Outright prizes. Gotcha Glass have come on board this year and have kindly donated the Trophies for the event, and we are currently working on getting a speed trap for Wynarka Straight to allocate bragging rights on Saturday night!”

The spectators, crew and families are not forgotten at Wynarka, as camping facilities are also very good with flushing toilets, hot showers, grassed area camping and a canteen on both Saturday and Sunday operating (no Saturday tea).

In 2017 we are hoping again for a strong field to race at Wynarka. We look forward to seeing you and your club members at Wynarka this year and thank you for your support to both SA Off Roading and the sport in general.
