Round 6 of the ARB Australian Off Road Racing Series and Round 3 of the Element Off Road AORRA South Australia Off Road Racing Championship is on this weekend at the Teagle Excavations ARB Pines Enduro 400.

Set in the amphitheatre of Teagles Quarry in Millicent in the south east of South Australia, the event promises to provide enthralling racing action throughout the weekend.

The Millicent Sand Buggy Club have been hard at work preparing for the multitude of teams from across the country who are set to converge on the Teagle Excavations Quarry from Friday 22nd September.

The pit area is looking fantastic and the prologue arena is in perfect condition for racing. The big screen TV will bring all the action from around the prologue track right to the spectators through six camera vantage points.

This year marks a very special milestone in the events history; for 40 years the Tantanoola Forest has echoed with the sound of off road engines, as it comes alive for one weekend a year.

Hosting an event for 40 consecutive years is a mammoth achievement for the Millicent Sand Buggy Club members, and teams have travelled the length and breadth of the country to contest the Teagle Excavations ARB Pines Enduro 400 in their chase for the ARB Australian Off Road Racing crown.

A strong field of off road racing vehicles will take to the track to test their skill and machinery against the Tantanoola Forest. Off road racing is not a sport for the faint hearted; teams will complete over 400km of racing over the weekend on a course that includes a combination of the heavy sanded and tightly tree’d forest tracks, straight-line runs down white metal council roads and jumps and berms of the spectator arena at Teagle’s Quarry.

Last year’s winner Matt Hanson will be hoping to go back to back in his twin turbo powered Jimco buggy, but will have stiff competition from the likes of Mark Burrows, Jamie Robinson, Garry Turnbull, Craig Martin and Hayden Bentley who have all tasted outright success at the event on previous occasions.

The Pines Enduro also doubles as the final round of the prestigious ARB Australian Off Road Racing Series and the number one spot is still up for grabs. Dale Martin leads the series in his class 1 buggy on 282 points over class member Troy Duff who sits on 247.

With a possible 70pts on offer for victory the title chase is set to go down to the wire with Steven Graham 246, Danny Brown 233 and Aaron Haby 232 all within an arms reach of the number 1 plate.

A strong local contingent will be present looking to use their local knowledge to push themselves onto the podium in their respective classes. Daniel Lamb, Todd Lehmann and Garry Turnbull will compete in the hotly contested Unlimited buggy class. Class 2 has the strongest local flavour with Peter Tamblyn, Aaron Heemskerk, Tyson Proud, Jake England and Gregory Vivian all after a step on the podium.

The class 4 or trophy trucks will be headed up by Greg Gartner in a new Geiser Bros and known as a crowd favourite with his hard driving style. Damien Nicol, Andrew Murdock, Grant Bowden and Robert Moore will all be chasing strong results.

Heath Weedon in Class 7 and Sam Thomas, Jamie Vearing both in Class 8 have a great opportunity to do well in their respective classes over the weekend.

The Millicent Sand Buggy Club appreciate the assistance given by Forestry SA, OneFortyOne Plantations, Wattle Range Council, the adjoining landowners and local residents; without their ongoing support, this event would not be possible.
