YXZ1000R takes several titles across the country

Yamaha Sport Side by Side competitors took wins across the country cementing the YXZ1000R reputation for toughness and reliability.

2017 NSW Off Road Championships

Yamaha Sports Rec dealer Justin Chisholm of Trooper Lu’s Garage has been an enthusiastic campaigner in the CAMS New South Wales Off Road Championship with his Weller Racing team. Over the six round championship, he has managed six starts with six finishes.

The final round in Nabiac took its toll on the whole field, with only twelve of the fifty competitors finishing. Chisolm and his co-driver Angie Hoffman finished the weekend sixth outright against all cars including Pro Buggies and V8 trophy trucks.

As a result Justin won the overall CAMS New South Wales Superlite A Off Road Championship and collected enough points to finish equal third outright in the 2017 CAMS New South Wales Off Road Championships. They also took home the Len Barron perpetual trophy which honours the memory of Len who was a well respected member of the Kempsey Macleay Off Road club.

2017 Australian SxS Championships

The final round of the Australian SxS Championships played out in near perfect conditions at the Broadford Motorcycle Complex in Victoria. The YXZ1000R has dominated the Superlite A class with Yamaha driver Dan McKenzie entering the final round just a few points behind Ivan Szkut in the overall point score.

Despite only having to finish every race to win the outright Superlite A championship Szkut drove like a man possessed to get maximum points rolling his car early in the day. Luck was on his side landing back on his wheels and continued to challenge McKenzie after the restart.

McKenzie ultimately dominated the final round of the championship in his stick shift YXZ1000R. “Even though I crashed during the year the YXZ has performed faultlessly.” said McKenzie. “It’s reliability has given me time to rest between the races where others are frantically making repairs.”

Rob Plageman in his YXZ1000R SS SE also drove consistently to finish second on the day. “I really enjoy the Australian SxS Championship and I’ll be back next year to give it another go.” The hard charging Ivan Szkut finished third in the final round securing enough points to take the 2017 Australian SxS Superlite A Championship outright. “I’ve driven hard all year and I’m impressed how well the YXZ has performed despite the punishment I’ve dished out.”, exclaimed Szkut. Tim Liston from Canberra gathered up enough points to take third outright in the Australian championship.

Loveday 350 Off Road Race

2017 Tatts Finke Desert Race winner Jake Williams headed to South Australia to compete in the Loveday 350 Off Road Race. The 350 kilometre race has cars reaching speeds over 200kph so outright speed and reliability were the key factors for a good result. Staying out of trouble Jake dominated his class in his YXZ1000R SS SE to finish first in the Superlites against both normally aspirated and turbos. That gave him seventh outright in an experienced field of off road racers including Pro Buggies and Trophy Trucks.

"It was a great event and a big thanks to my mum for jumping in the navigators seat. The YXZ1000R SS SE performed brilliantly and all we had to do was add fuel and check the coolant as it was a very hot day. This is our third endurance race in the paddle shift and we haven’t had to do any work on it at all." Jake went on to say, “Above all we finished twelve minutes ahead of the Superlite turbos and that’s been very satisfying.”
