After an 18 year hiatus, Victorian Jason Forssman #774 has returned to the off road racing scene, with his eyes firmly set on the 2018 ARB Australian Off Road Racing Championship.

No stranger to the sport, Forssman was first introduced to what would become a huge part of his life when camping trackside watching father Ron at Sea Lake in 1982; next weekend he will make his Griffith debut. While many teams are finalising preparations for their season launch, Forssman and crew have been busy at work, rolling out a Nissan Patrol LWB Wagon sporting Ironman Foam Cell Pro shocks, before securing a Class 7 victory at the recent King of the Dunes.

It all began in the early nineties for Forssman, who teamed up with his cousin Andrew in a Class 2 machine, though more pace was required so came the purchase of an E15 Pulsar turbo class 1. Forssman continued turning dirt in fury with his Dad by his side until the end of 1999, when he began plying his trade in winch truck racing, which he remains competing in today.

Forssman and crew will converge on the Stackpoole property next weekend with an open mind in their first real crack at an endurance event, eager to take on some of the harshest terrain the ARB Off Road Racing Championship has to offer. The team plan on competing at four of the championship rounds, a few of the local Victorian events whilst continuing to run the winch truck series which unfortunately clashes with Goondiwindi and Mildura.

Like any race team, Forssman has a large band of supporters and sponsors who contribute immensely to his racing endeavours. Firstly, to the main sponsors of the #774 truck, Marlene and the team from Oricom UHFs who have been terrific, giving the team every opportunity to succeed.

Other corporates include – Ryco Filters, Repco, Great Whites, Cooper Tires, M2R Helmets, Roadsafe, Castrol Edge, Disk Brakes Australia, Bendix, Clutch Industries, Whiteline, Gates, Nolathane, Century Batteries and Ironman 4x4.

Jason would also like to acknowledge Shawn and Carly from Charles Brothers Automotive, Drew and Alice from Drive Safe Service Centre, and Dale, Brett, Aaron, Michael and Mossey – the guys who are always there to lend a hand, most of the time without being asked. Last, however not least, is Forssman’s wife Kara along with side kick in the truck Del Palmer and wife Nik from Geelong 4WD and Camping; the help and guidance from these guys is second to none – an amazing team effort by all.

Forssman first witnessed off road racing at eight years of age in the same month he was born; coincidently, his daughter Ashlyn who got her first taste recently at Portland in the same month as she was born, incredibly she was also at the age of 8 years old.

An amazing end to the tale, one that reinforces off road racing as a backbone to creating relationships and memories that money cannot buy. There is little if any doubt that Forssman’s children will be racing in years to come, ensuring the legend continues.
