With the SA off Road Racing Season moving towards the end of the season the annual Denise Gosden Memorial Ladies and Juniors race is happening at the Wynarka track, next weekend Sunday 14th October.

This event gives those who support driver and navigator teams throughout the off road season a chance to experience and compete just like their counterparts do.

This race was first held in 1986 to commemorate the life of a woman who worked tirelessly to get women involved in Motor Sport. She died after a freak accident which occurred in March 1986 at an Auto Repair business she ran with her husband Graham.

On the passing of Denise, collaboration between Michael Prisk, Summit Racing Team Car Club and Gawler Road Knights Car Club, saw the event dedicated to Denise. The aim was to bring more ladies and juniors into racing, and alternate the running of the event between these two clubs, either at the Wynarka venue, or a track available to Gawler Road Knights Car Club.

The original event was run at Wynarka. Annette Prime and Jenny Widdison, from Southern Districts Car Club, were the winners of the first all girl crew trophy. Carlene Cousins with Peter Cousins as navigator was the first lady home and Damon Bridge was the first junior home. With this year being the 30th anniversary of the event, it is only fitting that it be run again at Wynarka.

Over the years, the event has been won by many ladies and juniors, and the trophies are displayed with pride by their winners.

As we return to the Wynarka track, the Summit Racing team car club has quickly tidied up the track and the corners that have been chewed out from the Enduro held in August. The track will be 8km long, run as an Enduro and takes in the quarry, pedal to metal straight, Wynarka straight and the section in front of the camp area. The event will be scrutineered on Sunday morning, followed by a reconnaissance of the full track in race cars and then straight into a short prologue, to determine starting positions.

At 1:30pm the first cars will leave the line to complete 12 laps of a 9km course; running 6 laps, a 30 minute service break and then a further 6 laps. As is customary at the Wynarka track, the Karoonda Lions club will be catering the event with a BBQ.

The Summit Racing Team Car Club need 10 entries to run the event and currently have five.

137 – Lauren Andrews (SA)
197 – Tanya Wales (NSW)
256 – Jarrah Taylor (SA)
299 – Lynda Miller (Vic)
555 – Kimberley Hille (SA)

Camping is available at the track Saturday night, and as an added bonus, a field trip to the Murray Bridge Speedway on Saturday night leaving and returning to the Wynarka track will be taking place, for those that need more racing action for the weekend.
