The ARB Australian Off Road Racing Championship committee has reinforced today their support for the Sunraysia Motorsports Club following the announcement yesterday of the cancellation of their 2019 event.

“The Championship committee is made up of competitors, land owners and officials, and we all understand how difficult a decision it is for a club to cancel an event. Given the current condition of the land, which was reinforced by property owner and off road racer Ivan Robertson, we fully support the Sunraysia Motorsport Club and feel the members have made the right decision given the circumstances,” explained Danny Brown, Championship facilitator.

“The events within the Championship strive for best practice, with competitor safety and land preservation at the top of the priority list. To run an event on drought affected land would do long lasting or permanent damage to Keera Station. We have to remember that we race there one weekend a year, and the rest of the year it is a working farm; is someone’s livelihood; we have to respect that.”

The 2019 ARB Australian Off Road Racing Championship will now consist of four rounds; Sea Lake, Griffith, Goondiwindi and Millicent. The committee has also confirmed it will be four out of four rounds to count for points.

Registration for the championship is now open and 20 bonus points will be given to competitors that register before the close of entries for the Sea Lake Mallee Rally run on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend in June.

Danny Brown finished with “we hope for all concerned that the drought affecting so much of the country breaks soon so that the Sunraysia Motorsports Club can return to the ARB Australian Off Road Racing Championship as the opening round in 2020”.
