Finke Family Thank Aputula
Wednesday, 05 June 2019
The Finke Desert Race Club and Ambassadors made a special visit to the local primary school in Aputula (Finke) to kick start Race Week, ahead of Australia’s Ultimate Desert Race getting underway this weekend.

On behalf of the Finke Desert Race Committee, President Antony Yoffa presented Finke School with a $3,000 donation to support the work they do with children in the community.

The Ambassadors’ visit to Finke comes as competitors and race fans alike descend on Central Australia to watch the 2019 edition of the Tatts Finke Desert Race unfold. The Ambassadors’ visit was an opportunity for the Finke Desert Race committee to thank the Finke community for their ongoing support of the event.

The Ambassadors spent the morning with the children in their classroom for story time and helped to educate the young students on how to stay safe at Finke throughout the course of the event.

Local Alice Springs Mayor and Finke Life Member, Damien Ryan was overwhelmed by the generosity of the Finke Desert Race committee and spirit of the local school.

“The Finke Community play a vital role in the Tatts Finke Desert Race, and without their support it simply wouldn’t go forth year after year with such great success,” he said.

“It’s been wonderful to spend the day at the school and see the Finke Ambassadors interacting with the local kids.

“Every year our community unites to support this amazing event, and it’s great to see the generosity of the Finke Desert Race giving back to this wonderful community and supporting our youngest generations.”

The Ambassadors were also treated to a performance of a special rap that the children had written about the Finke Desert Race, while the committee also hosted a community BBQ in Finke which drew a major crowd, proving that the excitement for the race weekend is continuing to build just four days out from Race Day 1.
The 2019 Tatts Finke Desert Race will rings on the Queen’s Birthday weekend from 6-10 June 2019.
