In motorsport circles, a team that races together stays together, and there is no better way to define Team Howells.

After a huge 2018 which included a breakthrough weekend at the Tatts Finke Desert Race, Howells Motorsport spearheaded by Josh #3 and Ally #102 have again ascended on the Red Centre for a crack at Australia’s biggest off-road race. A busy offseason for the team included the purchase of an Aussie Special Jimco for Ally which was unleashed with a spectacular new livery alongside Josh’s Jimco at St.George.

It turned out to be a mixed bag for the team at Round 1 of the CAMS Australia off-road championship in Queensland. Josh and Eric #3 got off to a flyer like they have done so in all their Jimco outings, prologuing 2nd before a soft rollover at the end of lap one ended their charge. With plenty of points on offer Josh got back on the horse and finished both of Sunday’s sections in 6th place- both car and driver performing excellent, holding them in terrific stead going into their second Finke!

Ally and Sean #102 had their first run in their Jimco and everything was smooth sailing towards a class podium. Sitting 2nd in the prolite class overnight Ally consolidated her position until a crank sensor failure on the final lap ended a dream run. All things have been resolved for Finke leaving Ally in prime position to improve on her position just outside the top 20 in her new beast.

As the team converged on the Red Centre during the week with two Jimcos in tow, there was time to reminisce on their outstanding debuts in 2018. Josh started off with a bang prologuing in 5th, before crossing in Alice Springs on the Queens birthday Monday 6th outright much to the delight of owner, manager and proud father Glenn who is the back bone of the team. Ally’s 28th outright was just as impressive, being the First Lady home she has her sights set on a bigger finish in 2019. With both cars fully prepped, dialled in, better suspension set ups and a Finke campaign to their names they are set for a massive 2019 assault.

Howells Motorsport would like to thank their sponsors and supporters for their continued support. Follow the Howells Motorsports Facebook page for updates over the weekend.
