Billy Geddes and Jamie Ward were crowned King of the River today at the inaugural running of the 2019 Whitsundays Regional Council Don River Dash. Their total race time, after 300km of racing through the nearly dry Don River riverbed, of 2h44m23seconds not only secured outright victory of the off road component of the event, but blitzed the fastest motorbike competitor by over 30minutes.

The King of the River title came with a $1,000 award which Geddes promptly donated back to the Burdekin Offroaders Club. Second outright and first in Class 1 was the hard charging Tony Fehlhaber and Gary Howell, the #138 Chenowth clocking in at 3h03m04seconds, over 4minutes ahead of Craig and Doug Barnett.

The inaugural Whitsundays Regional Council Don River Dash was a huge success with the township of Bowen extending a massive welcome to the event.  This is one event, that with the backing of the Whitsundays Regional Council, is set for much bigger and better things.
