After a one year hiatus the King of the Dunes race is set to return on Saturday 21st March making the 2020 race the 9th running of this iconic event in it’s current format.

Hosted by the Portland Dune Buggy Club, the race runs through spectacular sand dunes 40kms west of Portland in south west Victoria. Not only is it one of the most picturesque settings for a race, but it is the only off road race in Australia to hold mass starts; a spectacle not to be missed!

The race committee are excited to announce Warrnambool 4x4 and Outdoor – your home of Ironman 4x4 as the naming rights sponsor for the event. Warrnambool 4x4 and Outdoor specialise in 4WD and camping accessories and will hold a stall at the event so competitors, crew and spectators can see their quality range up close.

The race will consist of 2 heat races on Saturday 21st March with scrutineering and reconnaissance on the Friday night prior. The event will be fully catered with food and coffee options and Sportzprint merchandise also onsite.

Race committee member Damien Nicol said “we’re very excited to be putting the race back on and with the number of entries received so far we’re looking to have a bumper field. For the fans we’re hoping to set up the spectator area in a way that allows an even better view of the track and for competitors we hope to mark out a nice flowing track that makes for great racing”.
