Red dirt was sprayed today as Motorsport legend, Craig Lowndes, and leader of Australian Rally Championship, Harry Bates completed scintillating Prologue laps at the Tatts Finke Desert Race ahead of tomorrow’s Method Race Wheels Prologue Day.

Attending the Finke Desert Race for the second time, Lowndes completed a Prologue lap behind the wheel of Greg Campbell's Cam-Am before rally driver Bates followed suit in Peter Costello’s Pro Buggy.

Greg Campbell from GCR motorsport was a Finke Class winner in 2019, and Lowndes was thankful to Campbell for allowing him the opportunity to take his Cam-Am out for a spin.

“It isn’t every day that you can come up to Alice Springs and jump behind the wheel of a Cam-Am, thanks to Greg Campbell for throwing me the keys on what is a very busy weekend for him,” Lowndes said.

“With the likes of two-time Dakar Champion Toby Price and Alice Spring local favourite David Walsh competing at Method Race Wheels Prologue Day tomorrow, hopefully we see them set a high benchmark with some strong times and put on a great show for everyone watching.”

Bates also shared his excitement following his lap of the Prologue track in what is his first time attending the Finke Desert Race.

“This is the first time I have come up to Alice Springs for the Finke Desert Race, it has always been something I have looked forward and what a way to experience it by doing a lap in Pete’s Pro Buggy,” Bates said.

“The next few days will be an exciting spectacle for both the competitors and the fans that have travelled from all parts of Australia,”

“There is little wonder why this is known as the toughest off-road race in Australia, and I can’t wait to see who will be crowned the Kings of the Desert come Monday.”

The Method Race Wheels Prologue Day at the 2021 Tatts Finke Desert Race begins tomorrow ahead of Race Day 1 on Sunday.

The King of the Desert of both the bike and car categories will be crowned when the race finishes on Monday.

The 2021 Tatts Finke Desert Race will be held in Alice Springs on the Queen’s Birthday weekend from 11-14 June 2021.

2021 is the 1st year of Method Race Wheels’ naming rights partnership of Prologue Day and the 21st year of Tatts’ naming-rights partnership of the Finke Desert Race.
