New Season, New Class for Jason Forssman

Jason Forssman has always been one to pull out a surprise, and over the off season he did just that by taking ownership of the ex Des Harrington Class 4 Protruck #474. Set to be unleashed this weekend at the ARB Big Desert 480, Round 1 of the 2022 ARB Australian Off Road Racing Championship, Forssman knows the step up in class from the stock standard TB Patrol will be his greatest challenge.

Rolling into the northwest Victoria township of Rainbow accompanied by the teams Ryco sponsored Class 4 Protruck will be an all new experience for Forssman and crew. Gaining valuable seat time and learning the Protruck will be top priority, before Forssman attacks the final three rounds of the 2022 ARB Australian Off Road Racing Championship.

Fresh from a successful maiden testing session, Forssman and crew entered the Avalon Short Course last Saturday. As his confidence grew on every lap in a truck that hasn’t been turned in anger since 2014, Forssman put forward a strong second in class and ninth outright; the perfect final shake down before this weekends ARB opener.

Forssman’s two outings last season in the teams TB Patrol came at Avalon and Pooncarie, where an impressive 25th outright and second in class was the highlight. Despite entering the new truck, Forssman has generously passed over the Patrol to good friend Brett Tillson, who has been a huge help to the team over the years; with Tillson and his brother set to make their off road debut in style at Rainbow.

In what is becoming the ultimate off road family, Forssman’s brother Brendan will also be competing at the ARB Big Desert 480 in his Class 10 Sigma, despite destroying an engine at the Rainbow Rises 240 just three weeks ago, while Cousin Andrew will also be meeting the green lights in his Class 2 machine.

Forssman has always had a large band of supporters and sponsors who contribute immensely to his racing endeavours, and 2022 is no different. Firstly, to their main sponsors Ryco Filters and sponsors Repco, who have given the team every opportunity to succeed. Other corporate partners include – NGK, Karcher, AEG, DBA, BBE’s Autos, Castrol, Mickey Thompson Tyres, Dynamic Wheel Co, Gates, Fanmaster, AA Gaskets, Lazer Lamps and Century Batteries.

Forssman and crew have also been fortunate enough to secure a wide array of support from their local businesses including - Geelong 4WD and Camping, Drive Safe Service Centre, Charles Brothers, WestCoast Trailers, Dart Transport, SignsTgo, Racer Imports and ProDiesel.

Jason would also like to acknowledge Ash, Jye, Nik, Quinn, Sully, Drew, Mossy, Shawn, Uncle Thomas, Uncle Slim, Brendan, Drewy, Jezza, Jordan, Brett, Marcus, Leigh and father Ron; these guys are always there to lend a hand, most of the time without being asked.

Last, however not least, is Forssman’s wife Kara and counterweight in the truck Del Palmer who’s support is unquestionable in every way. The help, guidance and support from all those mentioned above is second to none – an amazing team effort by all.

See you all at Rainbow
